Ceramic floors for gastronomy

In gastronomy, a floor covering must be resilient in the dining room as well as behind the scenes in the kitchen. Fats, oils and other contaminants are part of the daily load on floors in the catering trade. In addition, the legal hygiene requirements for gastronomy floors pose great challenges. Normal floors cannot cope with these high loads. Plastic surfaces are attacked, concrete is difficult to clean due to its coarse pores and tiles cause problems due to insufficient load hardness and joints. Softer floors do not withstand heavy loads and daily public traffic. Here you get the ideal floor for the catering trade, which can be used in all areas of a catering business:

  • Kitchen
  • storerooms
  • restaurant rooms
  • cold storage rooms
  • sanitary rooms
  • lounges

The floor coverings available here – in particular our porcelain stoneware – meet and exceed the legal requirements and ordinances, which regulate exactly how these must be designed for restaurants and cafés. Requirements can be found in BGR I 12, Arbeitsstätten-Richtlinie (ASR 8/1), Arbeitssicherheitsinformation (ASI 4.40), the Lebensmittel- und Bedarfsgegenständegesetz (LMBG), the Berufsgenossenschaftlichen Regel für Sicherheit und Gesundheit bei der Arbeit für kontaminierte Bereiche (BGR 128), the Lebensmittelhygiene-Verordnung (LMHV). The kitchens, for example, are required to meet these requirements:

  • Durability and slip resistance
  • Extreme hardness to protect against splintering
  • Easy to clean, waterproof surfaces
  • Bacteria-repellent acid, alkali and fat resistance
  • Hygienic and resilient floors for the catering trade

Porcelain stoneware is recommended for you as a gastronome. It is fire-sealed, hard-wearing, easy to clean and provides full slip resistance. Porcelain stoneware also cannot become electrostatically charged. Heavy equipment leaves no traces on these floor tiles as they allow a high point load. Due to the hard and densely fired ceramic material, water can still penetrate the floor surface with oils, fats or acids, which prevents the colonisation of bacteria and makes cleaning child’s play.
